IOLA, Kan. — The Iola City Council is expected to take action on proposed revisions to the city’s purchasing policies at Monday evening’s meeting at 6 at the Riverside Park Community Building. At their meeting June 9, proposals were discussed to do away with a local preference policy or reduce the percentage a local bidder can be over a lower out of town bid from the current seven percent to three percent.
The Council will act on the Convention and Tourism Committee’s Recommendation to award $76,000 from Transient Guest Tax funds. This money comes from a tax on all hotel, motel, or VRBO stays for up to 28 consecutive nights.
In addition to funding for the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce to support tourism activities and special projects, funding is proposed to be allocated to the Veterans Day Committee, Southwind Rail Trail, the Junior Elk Fest, Rotary Club of Iola. Fair Board, Farm City Days, and the Allen County Farmers Market.
This fund also provides support for the city’s Park and Recreation Capital Improvement Fund, the Iola Municipal Band, and pays for insurance on the city’s trolley.
The Council will also consider a personnel policy revision, bids for the replacement of the Park West lift station, and an event request. A presentation will also be given during group discussion on a proposed new recycling program for Allen County, and an executive session is planned on acquisition of real property.
