ANDERSON COUNTY, Kan. — One person was airlifted to a Kansas City area trauma center after a vehicle fell on them this morning near Westphalia.
According to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the call came in at 9:44 a.m., with deputies along with Anderson County EMS and Westphalia First Responders immediately dispatched. Based on initial information EMS requested a medical helicopter be called.
Prior to their arrival a person was able to lift the vehicle off the subject and move them to a safe area, with the Westphalia first responders providing initial care before EMS arrived.
This is the second time in recent weeks where pre-identified landing zones and online air ambulance ordering through the communication center has proven to be an effective response for traumatic injuries.
Anderson County Sheriff Wes McClain said, “I am incredibly proud of our community members who acted as the first responders today. Their quick thinking and bravery helped save this man’s life. This is a testament to the caring spirit of our community.”
