IOLA, Kan. — An Iola woman was killed in a three vehicle crash Sunday evening on Old Highway 169 at the Elm Creek Bridge just south of Iola.
According to the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, a northbound pickup driven by Deana Foster crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Emma Westhoff of Chanute.
The pickup continued north, partly in the southbound lane, then struck a southbound vehicle driven by Meghan Sparks of Humboldt. The pickup then slid off the road, trapping Foster, who was extracted from her vehicle by the Iola Fire Department rescue team.
Foster was taken to Allen County Regional Hospital and then to Kansas City where she succumbed to her injuries. Westhoff was not injured, and Sparks declined treatment at the scene.
