IOLA, Kan. — Action to establish a land bank for the city of Iola will be taken at Monday evening’s Iola City Council meeting at 6 at the Riverside Park Community Building.

The ordinance incorporates recommendations made by the Council during their May 25th meeting. The Land Bank would accept through quit claim deed vacant properties with single family zoning uses that are a minimum 50 feet wide and 100 feet deep and having a clear title. Unlike some land bank programs, the Iola one will not purchase property.

Other items on the agenda include a fireworks display Request for the KC Iola Hormingas’ baseball game Tuesday, July 1st, setting dates for sale of fireworks at temporary stands and allow year-round sales in permanent structures, and a discussion of options for turfing two fields at Riverside Park which an EPA grant sought earlier apparently will not be approved.

Also, up for discussion is a proposal to modify or eliminate a local bidder preference in the city’s purchasing policy.
