Recent estimates from the Kansas Division of Budget indicate most counties in the area are holding their own when it comes to population. The 2024 estimates recently released indicate the state as a whole saw a population increase of 30,600, ten times that from the 2023 report.
Locally, Allen County saw a population increase of 13, or 0.1 percent to an estimated 12,423 people. The City of Iola saw a population drop of nine to 5,309 while Humboldt’s population went up one to 1,817.
Neosho County’s population went up by just under one percent, or 132 people to a population of 15.522. Chanute’s population went up 68 to 8,536 while that of Erie was up 16 to 1,035.
Anderson County saw a similar population percentage increase, up 70 people to 7,908. Garnett saw a 14 person increase to 3.211 residents. In Anderson County every city saw a slight population increase except Kincaid, and their population was unchanged.
Coffey County added 50 people to bring their 2024 population estimate to 8,301, with Burlington’s population up three to 2.596. Woodson County saw a population drop of four people to 3,111 with Yates Center losing 12 residents, with their population estimated at 1,315.
Bourbon County saw a population gain of 16 residents to 14,424, with Fort Scott’s population down an estimated two to 7,563. Linn county saw a loss of 19 people to 9,841, while Wilson County was up 16 to 8,398. In Wilson County Fredonia’s population declined by two to 2,071 while Neodesha was up 14 to 2,210.
Crawford County’s population estimate for 2024 was up 140 to 38,904 with Pittsburg population down 43, Frontenac up 40 and Girard up eight.
