GARNETT, Kan. — There was another product spill reported Friday night in Garnett, but the incident was nowhere near as serious as the one on New Years Eve.

According to the Garnett Fire Department, this was reported to them at 8:28 p.m. in the area of 7th and Maple. However, unlike the December 31st incident that remains under investigation by the EPA, they were able to quickly identify the truck and substance involved.

This spill involved wet distiller’s grain, a byproduct of ethanol manufacturing that can create a slick surface when on a roadway.

GFD personnel were able to utilize brooms and shovels to start cleanup, with the Garnett Street Department later using their street sweeper to aid in this, along with spreading a fine rock to aid in traction.

The Fire Department, in a Friday night statement, said in this case there was, and is, no danger to the public.
