BURLINGTON, Kan. — Burlington USD 244 voters overwhelmingly rejected a $45 million bond issue Tuesday that would have funded construction of a new elementary school.
Unofficial totals from the Coffey County Clerk’s Office indicate 793 votes were cast against the proposal to 305 in favor.
District officials had contended a new building would have been a better long-term investment than renovating the current facility which they said had minimal space to add onto or renovate and has safety and parking issues.
The vote canvass by the Coffey County Commission that makes the election official will be on Monday.
