IOLA, KAN. (March 4, 2026) — The Allen Community College HOSA team traveled to Wichita on March 2–3 to compete in the State HOSA leadership contests, joining more than 1,200 middle school, high school, and collegiate students from across Kansas. All six Allen students earned top placements and qualified for this summer’s International Leadership Conference.

Students advanced in nutrition, home health aide, family medicine, biotechnology, medical terminology, medical ethics, and general chemistry. The Allen team earned nine medals overall, including six gold, two silver, and one bronze.

“Our students worked exceptionally hard, and their results speak to the strength of Allen’s healthcare programs,” said Leslie Weir, advisor. “We’re excited to see them represent our college on the international stage.”

The team’s strong standing earned them an invitation to the HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Indianapolis June 17–20, bringing together future health professionals from across the globe. The conference will feature competitive events, educational workshops, professional presentations, networking opportunities, and general sessions recognizing top-performing students.

“Qualifying all six students is a remarkable achievement,” said Weir. “They’ve earned the opportunity to compete among the best HOSA members worldwide.”

According to their website hosa.org, HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
