MARION – Three Trinity Catholic boys basketball players set a career-high in scoring, and a fourth tied his best, as the Celtics had their best performance of the season Friday, beating Marion 53-30.
Junior Beau Towell continued his solid play, scoring a career-high 11 points. Senior Roberto Guerrero also set his standard with 11 points, and senior Alex Guajardo, playing just his second game of the season, scored a career-high 10 points.
Junior Ian Rios earned his first career start and tied his career high with four points.
The Celtics started strong, scoring the game’s first 10 points in less than two minutes. Towell converted a three-point play, and seconds later, Cameron Kiser dropped in a 3-pointer to cap the run.
Marion steadied and got within seven late in the second quarter. But Towell and Guajardo answered with 3-pointers, giving Trinity a 29-17 lead at halftime.
Trinity then dominated the third quarter, outscoring Marion 24-4. The Celtics hit six 3-pointers in the quarter from five players – Kiser had two, and Towell, Guajardo, Guerrero and Lawson Dowsey had one each. The margin was 32 points after three quarters, which caused a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Carson Krause led Marion with nine points.
