The Hutchinson High baseball team saw a six-game losing streak end Tuesday at Salina Central, but the Salthawks didn’t let the disappointment linger long as they beat Central 5-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
Central won the first game 5-4 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh. Four Salthawks – Jack Yoder, Cole Bleything, Landon Parks and Caiden Beavers – had two-hit games.
The Salthawks used a dominant pitching performance from Eastyn Keeler in winning the second game. Keeler allowed just one hit.
Hutchinson now is 11-8 and in 10th place in the Class 5A West Regional standings.
Boys tennis – The Salthawks won the Campus Invitational on Tuesday, sweeping the doubles divisions.
The No. 1 team of Mason Buller and Preston Reed went 3-0 in winning the division, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Caysen Cox and Alex Johnson.
Sam Thompson went 2-1 in No. 2 singles and finished second.
Softball – The Salthawks had an impressive win Monday, topping Andover Central 12-11 at Fun Valley, but the second game didn’t go their way in a 14-2 loss to Kapaun Mount Carmel.
On Tuesday, the Salthawks lost 16-1 and 6-1 to Salina Central.
The Salthawks are now 2-18 and will take a bit of time off before traveling to Eisenhower next Tuesday.
Girls soccer – The Salthawks continued their offensive surge Tuesday, putting five more goals past Salina South in a 5-2 win. The Salthawks have scored 14 goals in their last three games.
Rhyan Galyon scored four goals.
Hutchinson improved to 6-5-1 and has won back-to-back games for the first time since winning the Titan Classic in late March.
Girls swimming – Six Salthawks placed in the top five during a meet Tuesday at Campus, leading the team to a fourth-place finish.
AJ Gooch and Julianna Stivers had the best finish for the Salthawks, as each had a third-place finish, Gooch in the 100-yard breaststroke and Stivers in the 100 backstroke.
Stivers also finished fourth in the 100 freestyle, while Gooch added a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.
The 400 freestyle relay was the highest-finishing relay, coming in fourth. The team included Emma Buller, Morgan Most, Gooch and Stivers.
Track and field – The boys team won events Friday at Buhler, leading the Salthawks to a team championship.
Spencer Riggs won the 100 meters, and Robert Hunter took first in the 400. The 400 relay team also took first. Team members were Juan Ford, Kaden Valencia, Chris Lachenmeier and Spencer Riggs. In field events, Terrell King won the long jump.
On the girls side, the Salthawks completed a long jump sweep as KeiRne Martinez took first.
Boys golf – The Salthawks finished fourth at the Derby Invitational on Monday. Garrison Hicks led the Salthawks with a seventh-place finish, carding an 85.
