HUTCHINSON, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – Called upon to make a spot start in the final game of the THF Winter Blast on Saturday, Hutchinson Community College freshman pitcher Korri Lies turned in an incredible performance against Weatherford College.

Lies twirled a complete-game two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Weatherford. The freshman from Cheney, on Tuesday, was named the KJCCC Pitcher of the Week.

Down a pitcher because of injury, Lies was called on to start the third and final game of the weekend. Lies struck out four and walked one. She allowed only four baserunners, none advanced past second base. Lies needed only 69 pitches over seven inning.

One day earlier, Lies made her collegiate debut against Eastern Oklahoma State, working three innings in relief.

For the weekend in two appearances, Lies had six strikeouts in 10 innings of work with one earned run and three hits allowed.

She is the first Blue Dragon freshman to pitch a complete-game shutout in her first career start since 2020 when Jordan Galliher no-hit Allen in a five-inning victory.

Lies is the second-straight Blue Dragon pitcher to earn KJCCC weekly honors. Kierstan Weitze was the league’s Pitcher of the Week last week.
