Larson, DMR Set Pace for Dragons at Region VI

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Freshman distance runner Serenity Larson and the women’s Distance Medley Relay both finished as event runners-up on Day 1 of the Region VI Indoor Championships at the Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State University.

Larson ran her second-fastest 5,000-meter time of the season after posting a runner-up time of 19 minutes, 1.21 seconds. Larson has already qualified for nationals.

The Blue Dragon women’s Distance Medley Relay posted the third-best time in Blue Dragon indoor history with a Region VI runner-up time of 12:50.78. Gracie LambertKeneah Romney VanZelfden and Taylor Hoskinson improved their national qualifying mark for the season.

Freshman hurdler Kaylee James qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals on Sunday. She ran the fifth-best time in qualifying with a mark 9.05 seconds. Mady Hernandez just missed advancing to the finals with a ninth-place finish at 9.28 seconds.

Alivia Noll and Raylee Johnson both scored points for the Blue Dragons in the pole vault. Noll placed sixth after clearing 9 feet, 4.25 inches (2.85m). Johnson was seventh after clearing 7-4.25 (2.25m).

Sophomore thrower Lushous Davis posted the seventh-best 20-pound weight throw in Blue Dragon indoor history. She finished seventh on Saturday in the weight throw, hitting her best attempts of the meet on her second throw of finals with a distance of 47 feet, 6 inches (14.48m), a new PR for her.

After Day 1, the Blue Dragons are fifth in the team standings with 36 point. Barton leads the women’s team race with 93 points. Day 2 begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
