SEDGWICK – Lawson Dowsey sank two free throws with four seconds left in overtime on Friday, and the Trinity Catholic boys won their second game in a row as the Celtics edged Sedgwick 52-50.
Although the Celtics struggled offensively in the fourth quarter in overtime – Cameron Kiser made their only field goal over the last 12 minutes – they were clutch from the free-throw line late. First, Kiser sank two free throws in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, giving Trinity a 48-45 lead. But Sedgwick’s Bryson Schmeidler sank a 3-pointer, forcing overtime.
In overtime, the Celtics were 4 for 4 from the foul line. Ian Rios, who had attempted just eight free throws on the season, sank a pair early in overtime, offsetting a Maverick Stauth basket for Sedgwick.
Dowsey helped get the Celtics back in the game after a tough start that saw Sedgwick lead 14-4. Dowsey, a freshman, drilled three 3-pointers, helping the Celtics draw level 15-15 after one quarter, on his way to a 12-point night.
Cameron Kiser and Beau Towell carried the scoring load for most of the second and third quarters. Kiser finished tying a career high with 20 points, and Towell continued his steady play by scoring a career-high 13 points.
Drew Stucky led Sedgwick with 19 points.
Trinity Catholic improved to 6-11 and will take Tuesday off before heading to Berean Academy on Friday.
