Dragon Womens’s Soccer Grind Out 1-0 Victory at Dodge City

DODGE CITY – The Hutchinson Community College Women’s Soccer team won its third-straight match and extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-0 Jayhawk Conference victory over the Dodge City Conquistadors on Sunday at Memorial Stadium.

Hutchinson is now 9-2-2 overall and 6-2-2 (20 points) with the victory. The Blue Dragons travel to Seward County at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Liberal.

With Dodge City playing multiple players behind the ball to defend, the game was tied at halftime. The Dragons finally broke through in the 69th minute when freshman defender Lucy Bacon launched a shot from 40 yards out that was touched by Dodge City goalkeeper Lucy Goss, but went in just under the cross bar to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead with 21:52 to play in the second half.

Olivia Tamaki was credited with the assist. The goal was Bacon’s first career goal and it was the fourth by a Blue Dragon defender this season.

With the Conquistadors playing in a defensive posture, they made very few runs into the Blue Dragon half of the field. Blue Dragon keeper Evie Carvell (6-2-2) didn’t face a shot on Sunday.

The Blue Dragons outshot Dodge City 30-0 and 12-0 in shots on goal. This is the second time this season and 32nd time in program history the Blue Dragons have not allowed a shot taken and it’s the 53rd time in program history the Dragons haven’t allowed a shot in a game.

Hutchinson is now 1-1 this season in 1-0 games and 19-15 all-time in 1-0 games.

The Blue Dragons won their 33rd-straight win over Dodge City and are now 34-1 all-time against the Conquistadors
