Blue Dragon Men’s Cross Country Place 4th in Tight Tiger Open

HAYS – Sophomores Cornelius Kogo and Titus Kiprotich both placed in the individual Top 5 and the No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s cross country team placed fourth in a very close FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday at the Fort Hays State Cross Country Course.

Colorado School of Mines won the team title with 59 points. Iowa Western was second with 71 points. Adams State was third with 74 points and the Blue Dragons were fourth with 78 points. Iowa Western and Hutchinson are the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the USTFCCCA/NJCAA Division I national rankings. Saturday was the first time the Blue Dragons and Reivers competed against each other.

Kogo was the top Blue Dragon runner on Saturday, posted a career-best 8K time and the third-fastest 8K time in Blue Dragon history with a time of 23:47.65. Kiprotich placed fourth with a time of 24:01.82.

Kogo and Kiprotich both posted their third Top 10 finishes of the season.

Sophomore Farrin Mangelson placed 18th with a time of 24:44.09. Freshman Esteban Oses Campus was 22nd with a time of 24:57.44 and freshman Esteban Ortega was 34th in 25:34.31.

Sophomore Dennis Cheruiyot was 42nd with a time of 25:47.31. Freshman Max Ryan was 119th with a time of 29:30.21.

Next up for the Blue Dragons is the 2025 Region 6 Championship on Friday, October 24 in Colby.
