BUHLER, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Sammie Brooks, Buhler Crusaders goalkeeper as this week’s Athlete of the Week.
The week – Brooks wrapped up an impressive senior season, and career, in the Class 4-3-2-1A regional tournament. She posted another clean sheet in a semifinal win over Winfield before Buhler bowed out in the regional finals against Mulvane. Brooks was so impressive that not only was she selected first-team all state, but she was also named AVCTL Division 3/4 player of the year, a rare feat for a goalkeeper.
The season – Brooks finished with a school single-season record 10 shutouts, and seemed to make highlight-reel saves every game. Brooks had 134 saves and allowed just 19 goals. Brooks, who helped Buhler to the state championship game her freshman year when she came off the bench in the quarterfinals, was a three-year starter and captain.
Ad Astra Radio’s Athlete of the Week is presented by Hutchinson Community College.
