HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Congratulations to Ad Astra Radio’s Athlete of the Week Kaia Smith, Hutchinson High School senior on the girls’ basketball team.
The week – Smith played well in the Salthawks’ mid-season tournament in McPherson, where the Salthawks finished in third place. She saved her best for last, in a 17-point, 7-rebound, 5-assist performance on Saturday in the third-place game, in a 54-27 win over McPherson. Smith had a team-leading six points in a 49-19 semifinal loss to eventual-champion Olathe South, and she had three points in a first-round 44-27 win over Dodge City.
The season – Smith, a senior, is averaging 14.7 points and 10.6 rebounds a game for the Salthawks, who improved to 7-4 after the win over McPherson.
Athlete of the Week is presented by Hutchinson Community College.
