HUTCHINSON, Kan. — July 11, 2024, at 4:32pm, The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to the 1100 BLK of West 2nd for a report of a structure fire in a duplex. First arriving crews found a single story multi family structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from multiple sides of the structure. Upon arrival, crews heard an occupant inside the structure. Crews started an aggressive offensive attack on the fire pushing their way inside while also conducting a search for possible victims. The occupant walked out on his own unharmed. Fire attack crews found fire in the back part of the home that extended to the attic. The home appeared to be in a state of remodel. Crews were able to extinguish the fire with minimal extension.
No injuries were reported. Fire crews rotated through medical rehab for heat stress monitoring due to the 100 degree outside temps. The Fire is still under investigation.
