The National Weather Service has issued wind advisories for much of central and eastern Kansas from 6 AM to 6 PM Sunday. The advisory covers all of central Kansas to the east of and including Harper, Kingman, Reno, Barton, and Russell counties.
Northwest winds during the day Sunday will be sustained at 25 to 35 miles an hour with gusts expected up to 50 miles an hour. These winds will blow around unsecured objects, and could cause tree limbs and power lines to be downed. This will make for difficult driving conditions, especially for high profile vehicles.
Some areas of central Kansas, generally along and north of US 56, could also see some very light precipitation through mid-afternoon Sunday, and while some of that may be of the frozen variety, accumulations are not expected to be significant.
Winds will diminish slightly Sunday evening, which will also produce wind chills near zero Sunday night into the day Monday, with winds continuing to gust to 30 miles an hour or more during the day Monday, with winds diminishing late in the day.
Temperatures are expected to moderate some Tuesday, with daytime highs through Saturday into the upper 40’s and lower 50’s, still a bit above normal for this time of the year. Beyond anything we see Sunday, the current long range forecasts call for no precipitation chances in this area for at least the next couple of weeks.
