RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Two Reno County school board positions up this year will have to be filled by write-in. When the filing period ended at noon Monday, nobody had filed for Position 6 on the Nickerson-South Hutchinson USD 309 Board of Education or for an unexpired term from Position 2 in Haven USD 312.
Every other board position had at least one person file. In Hutchinson USD 308 six people will seek the three positions up this year, including incumbents Laura Corey and Cheryl Thompson, and challengers Lindsey Hatfield, Jeff Roberson, Gregory Scott Thompson, and Shonita Tipton.
The fields are also set for city elections in Reno County in the November general election after the filing period ended. There will be contested races for all three city council positions in Hutchinson, for mayor and city council in Nickerson and Sylvia, and for city council in Buhler, Haven and the Highlands.
Write-ins will be required for two of the three City Council seats in South Hutchinson, for Council in Arlington where one person filed for three seats, and Plevna where three filed for five seats. There were no filings in Langdon or Willowbrook for mayor or Council, or for Mayor in Plevna.
