National Weather Service in Wichita Issues Extreme Heat Warning for Much of Central Kansas

SHARE NOW

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued an extreme heat warning from 2 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Wednesday for much of central Kansas.

A multi-day period of temperatures at or near 100 degrees combined with high humidity will produce heat index values up to 105 degrees.

If you have to be outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments, and drink plenty of fluids.

You’re also encouraged to check up on any relatives or neighbors who might not have air conditioning, and under no circumstances leave young children… or any other person… or pets in unattended vehicles, which can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Pratt and Stafford Counties are not at this time under the warning, but triple digit temperatures are also possible in that area.
