Feb. 20: Deadline to Register for 2024 Presidential Preference Primary

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — In 2023, the Kansas Legislature authorized the state-run Presidential Preference Primary, which had only been used in Kansas in 1980 and 1992.

This election is nontraditional — the timelines and statutes governing this election vary from a normal primary or general election.

Only registered Democratic and Republican parties will receive a ballot to participate in the PPP Election. Any registered voter who has not declared a party affiliation prior to the election must make such a declaration at the polling place, and vote in the presidential preference primary.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING 2024 ELECTION DATES

Feb. 20: Deadline to register to vote or update voter registration information or change party affiliation

Feb. 20: Last day to apply for an advance voting mail ballot

Feb. 28: First day of advance voting. Advance ballots by mail are transmitted. In-person advance voting may begin

March 18: In-person advance voting ends at 12:00 p.m.

March 19: Presidential Preference Primary Election. (All advance ballots must be received by close of polls)
