The newly minted Salt City Orchestra is thrilled to announce its first concerts with a full complement of musicians. The inaugural concert will take place June 19th at Dillon Nature Center at 7:00 pm. A second concert will be presented June 26th, also at 7:00 pm. and will be located in front of the DCI building at Main and 2nd. The Main Street concert is sponsored by Hutch Rec. Both concerts are free, and donations are welcome. Be sure to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to these concerts.

The program for both June concerts will include music by Duke Ellington, “Hoedown from Rodeo” by Aaron Copeland as well as a Tribute to Henry Mancini. The orchestra will present the world premiere of “Patriots’ Dream”, a medley in honor of America’s 250th birthday, arranged by Salt City Orchestra member, Phyllis Hopper. This orchestral work highlights each of the six branches of the US Armed Forces, including the recently released US Space Force hymn, “Semper Supra.” Included will be “The Star-Spangled Banner”. A second world premiere will be the first movement of a piece called “Elusive Dreams” by trumpeter and board President, Daniel Spears.

The conductor for the two June concerts will be Ms. Pamela Ann Lawson. Ms. Lawson is the Director of String Orchestras for Discovery Intermediate, Eisenhower Middle, and Eisenhower High School. Prior to teaching in Goddard, Ms. Lawson successfully taught and directed award winning orchestras in both North and South Carolina, and holds degrees in Music Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, and is National Board Certified.

Ms. Lawson also serves as the Director for the Northeast Area Strings Academy of Wichita (NASAW), an outreach strings program for underserved students in the Greater Wichita Area.
