STAFFORD, Kan. — Each week, Ad Astra Radio recognizes different athlete’s outstanding achievements. We are proud to announce Stafford High School junior Joel Valadez as this week’s Athlete of the Week, presented by Hutchinson Community College.
The week – Valadez dominated the Lyons Invitational on Sept. 30. Valadez finished the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17 minutes, 3.8 seconds. Valadez was one of just two runners to go under 18 minutes, and Valadez won the race by nearly 30 seconds.
The season – Valadez, a junior, is coming off a season where he finished eighth at the Class 1A state meet. He has had a strong season so far, as Valadez has finished second at Larned, and third twice this season, at St. John and at Pratt Skyline.
