Women’s Basketball Warriors Slip Past Bulldogs

McPHERSON, Kan. ( — The McPherson College Bulldogs knocked down a season-high 10 three-pointers Saturday (Jan. 21), but the Sterling College Lady Warriors pulled away late to win 78-70 inside the Sport Center.

The Bulldogs’ 10 threes were the most since the 2021-22 season. Chloe Clevenger drilled four of her 10 three-point attempts, en route to 14 points. Gillian Rodgers led the Bulldogs in the scoring column with 21 points, 14 of which came in the first half. Joze’ Baker finished with 11 points.

MC shot 44.3 percent from the field, their best showing since the holiday break. However, free throws proved to be a key factor, as the Bulldogs finished just 6-for13 from the charity stripe, compared to 12-for-17 at the line for the Lady Warriors.

After a back-and-forth first half, the Bulldogs lead by two, but a 10-0 spurt by Sterling midway through the third quarter to grab a 46-39 advantage. The Bulldogs quickly erased the lead to open the fourth quarter, but from there it was all Sterling.

Korynn Clason led the Warriors with 22 points, while Kali Briar finished with 17 points and Alissa Heskamp finished with 15 points.

The Lady Warriors shot 41.1 percent from the field, and were 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs hit the road for their next two, traveling to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday (Jan. 24) before squaring off against Bethel in North Newton Saturday (Jan. 27).
