Women’s Basketball Bulldogs Secure First KCAC Win

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — Matisyn Moses scored a career-high 24 points to help power the McPherson College Bulldogs to their first conference win of the season Saturday (Jan. 6), topping the Southwestern College Moundbuilders 70-56 inside the Sport Center.

Moses also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and block one shot. Joze’ Baker added 11 points and two steals, while Gillian Rodgers finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Chloe Clevenger nearly finished with a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds and recording a career-best nine assists.

The Bulldogs (5-9, 1-7 KCAC) forced Southwestern into 19 turnovers, thanks to eight steals. Baker and Jayla Moore each led the way defensively with two steals apiece.

Southwestern scored the first two points, but the Bulldogs answered with a 17-0 burst over the next five minutes to grab control early. The Builders trimmed the lead to 22-15 early in the second quarter, but again the Bulldogs had an answer closing the half on a 14-2 to lead 36-17 at the break.

The Bulldogs grabbed their largest lead of the contest at 42-19 early in the third quarter, then held on late in the fourth quarter to grab their sixth straight win over Southwestern dating back to the 2020-21 season.

Macey Pond led the Moundbuilders with 14 points and eight rebounds. Christy Wiebe added 12 points, two steals, and a pair of blocks, while Heather Chiesi finished with 11 points.

The Builders shot just 4-for-26 from beyond the arc, and were 1-for-13 in the first half. Southwestern made just five shots in the opening half, but were 6-for-7 from the charity stripe.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday (Jan. 10) to take on Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. MC will be back at the Sport Center Saturday (Jan. 13) with a showdown against York University.
