Wilson Selected as Finalist for Collegiate Female Athlete of the Year

STERLING, Kan. (scwarriors.com) –Sterling College women’s basketball standout, Taya Wilson, has been selected as a finalist for the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission (GWASC) Collegiate Female Athlete of the year.

Wilson led the Lady Warriors to their third straight KCAC Conference regular season championship, and fifth straight NAIA National Championship birth. She finished in the Top 5 of three main statistical categories, including points per game, rebounds per game and steals per game. Wilson led the Lady Warriors in rebounding, steals and blocks this season and finished second in scoring.

Her success on the court led to her selection as the KCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, unanimous selection to the KCAC First Team, and finished runner up in the Defensive Player of the Year voting. She was selected by the NAIA as a Second Team NAIA All-American and was also a Second Team NAIA Academic All-American.

In her career at Sterling College, Wilson holds the top spot on the career and single season rebounding records. She is also third on the all-time career steals list and finished sixth on the all-time career scoring list; missing out on the top 5 by just six points.

Other finalists for Collegiate Female Athlete of the year are Britney Ho, a volleyball player from Newman University, and Sydney McKinney of the Wichita State University softball team.

The 2023 GWASC banquet is scheduled for June 29 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in downtown Wichita, Kan. The reception will begin at 5:30 pm., with the banquet following at 6:45 pm. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
