Weather Forces Postponement of Friday, Saturday Games at St. John Mid-Winter Classic; Little River Teams Roll

ST. JOHN, Kan. — There will be no games Friday and Saturday at the St. John Mid-Winter Classic because snow is expected to blanket the state of Kansas this weekend, according to news network forecasts.

St. John already has canceled school Friday.

“We will attempt to complete the tournament next week,” said St. John school officials.

The Inman High School girls basketball team defeated Larned 56-43 in the semifinals of the St. John Mid-Winter Classic Thursday afternoon.

The Teuton girls will play Little River in the championship game. Little River defeated Central Plains 50-25 in the semifinals.

Morgan Froese and Maddie Parsons paced the Inman girls with 13 points apiece. Rynee Eddy added 10. Jadyn Crosby led the Larned girls with 20 points.

Arika Feldman led the Little River girls with 16 points. Avery Lafferty scored 11 and Havana Olander 7 Aevyn Siemsen led the Central Plains Oilers with 9 points.

The Little River boys, now 11-1, defeated Larned 78-35 in the boys semifinals.

Jaxson Konen led the Little River boys with 20 points. Kade Feldman scored 13 points, Jaren Garrison 12 and Lincoln Raleigh 8. Blayne Baldetti had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Konen had 4 assists.

Larned was led by Tristan Regan with 13 points.

Little River made 8-of-16 3-point attempts, including three by Feldman, two each by Konen and Raleigh and one by Garrison.

In consolation games at the Mid-Winter Classic, the Inman boys lost to Cimarron 68-45, the Nickerson girls lost to St. John 59-24, the Nickerson boys defeated Macksville 65-40 and the Macksville girls defeated Cimarron 53-27.

The Inman boys trailed 19-12 in the first quarter, 32-24 at halftime and 49-36 at the end of the third quarter.

The Nickerson boys, who led Macksville 47-22 at halftime, will play for fifth place when the tournament resumes.

The Nickerson girls, who trailed St. John 40-9 at halftime and were outscored 19-15 in the second half, will play for seventh place.

The Nickerson boys and girls return to regular-season action Tuesday with non-league games at Chapman.
