STERLING, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – The SC Warrior men’s soccer team dominated on the field during Wednesday’s game against the Ecclesia Royals. Marcelo Fuentes showed the Royals exactly why he was the starting goalie with a near clean sheet performance.
Within the first 5 minutes of the game, Sterling’s forward, Lawm Sangzuala scored his first goal for the season and the very first goal of the game giving the Warriors an early head start to this match. Shortly after the Royals, Alek Gonzalez took a shot on goal and was quickly shut down by Fuentes.
Matt Dale kept the offense rolling and scored a goal on Damian Castro making the score 2-0 in the 18′. The Warriors put one more score on the board just before halftime, this time off the foot of Daniel Stone, his first goal of the season.
It did not take long for the second half to start before the Warriors started shooting on the net. The first attempt by Cristian Monge was blocked, following his lead, Matt Dale attempted a header, but Castro made the save.
After a few more attempts, the Warriors were able to make their shot fall, making the score 4-0. The shot was made by Jonathan Torres, another 1st goal of the season. Around 20 minutes later Stone scored his second goal and the Warriors’ last goal of that match. So close to a shutout, Baraka Odenyo scored with just over a minute to play, creating a final match score of 5-1.
At the end of the match, Warriors’ goalie Fuentes had a save percentage of 87.5 during the 90 minutes he was on the field. He was able to construct 7 saves after 8 shots on goal. Stone had the most goals in the match, going with a 66.7% shooting average for that match.
