Volleyball Finishes Season at Regionals; Cross Country and Football Postseason Near for Smoky Valley

LINDSBORG, Kan. – As the fall sports season continues to wind down for Smoky Valley, here’s an update on the recent happenings for the Vikings sports teams.

FOOTBALL

Smoky Valley had a big bounce back win over Nickerson this past Friday night to finish out their district season.  The Vikings jumped out to a 14-0 lead on their way to a 29-7 win.  They will finish their regular season this Friday night at home against Hillsboro at 7:00.  Fans can catch the game on Smoky Hills Rock 95.5 with Dusty Deines and Doug Schneider as coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

The Vikings traveled to Trinity Academy in Wichita on Monday night for Regional action.  As part of 3A Regional 3, Smoky Valley was the #12 seed and faced #4 Trinity Academy, #5 Garden Plain and #13 Southeast of Saline.  They opened with a 25-14, 25-20 loss to Garden Plain, then fell 25-17, 25-18 to Trinity Academy.  The night finished with a 25-18, 25-22 loss to Southeast of Saline.  With only the top two teams moving on to Sub-State, Smoky Valley saw their season come to a close, finishing 12-26 in 2025.

CROSS COUNTRY

Smoky Valley competed in the Central Kansas League meet in Halstead last Thursday.  The Vikings high school varsity took second place on both the girls and boys side.  Hope Willems finished second place in the girls race with a time of 20:27.98, while Emma Chaput was 12th (21:58.72), Sophia Eyer finished 13th (22:17.70) and Ella Chaput took 14th (22:21.32).  Kaden Bishop was the top boys finisher, bringing home a fifth place medal with a time of 18:22.12.  Isaiah Ayala took 10th (19:05.93) and Levi Spears finished 15th (19:45.55) for Smoky Valley.

The Viking runners are now prepped for the 3A Regional meet this weekend.  They will travel to Trinity Academy in Wichita with the girls race starting at 10:35 a.m. and the boys at 11:45 a.m.
