DODGE CITY, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team was eliminated from the Region 6 Tournament on Tuesday with an opening-round loss to Dodge City.
The sixth-seeded Blue Dragons fell 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 to the third-seed Conquistadors at the DC3 Student Activity Center.
Hutchinson’s season comes to a close with a 21-19 overall record.
The Blue Dragons were held to .021 hitting while Dodge City hit .381 for the match.
Freshman Atlyn Proctor had five kills to lead the Blue Dragons. Freshmen Brooke Galey and Kierny Follmer followed with four kills each. Sophomore Precious Johnson and redshirt freshman Tiana Simmons had three kills.
The Blue Dragons were out-blocked 7-4. Sophomore McKenzie Murphy had four total blocks, including one solo block.
Sophomore setter Shelbi Wilson closed with 18 assists.
Freshman libero Addy Foster had 13 digs. Hutchinson freshman digs record holder finished her season with 630 total digs. She moved past Samantha Lackey (2012) into second place on the Blue Dragon single-season digs list.
Galey had seven digs and Simmons had three digs.
SET 1: The Blue Dragons faced an early five-point deficit, but Ellie Suber‘s ace serve pulled the Blue Dragons within 13-11. Three straight Dodge City errors got the Dragons within 15-14, then back-to-back Galey kills drew Hutchinson within 17-16. Dodge City answered with a 5-0 run, but the Dragons came right back with its own 5-0 run that was capped with a Galey ace to pull within 22-21. Dodge City claimed the set with a 3-0 run.
SET 2: Dodge City jumped out to an 8-1 run and extended it to 12-3. The Dragons climbed back into the set with a 6-1 run and pulled within 13-9 after a Murphy/Wilson double block. Leading 21-16, Dodge city scored on the final four rallies to take a 2-0 match lead.
SET 3: Back-to-back solo blocks from Simmons and Murphy tied the third set at 4-4, but the Dragons couldn’t grab the lead away from the Conquistadors. Dodge City went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. The Conquistadors closed the match with an 8-1 run.
