McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — After dropping the first two sets, the McPherson College Bulldogs stormed back to knock off the Evangel University Valor 3-2 Saturday (Oct. 19) inside the Holman Fieldhouse.
Daniela Jimenez had arguably her best game in a Bulldog uniform, finishing with a season-high 18 kills to lead the Bulldogs offensively, while Enya Fierens and Brooke McHale added nine kills apiece.
The Bulldogs comeback bid started in the third set, getting separation midway through to lead 16-10. Evangel pulled within 23-21 late in the frame, but a kill by Fierens finished it off and breathed life into the MC faithful.
In the fourth set, again the Bulldogs grabbed an 18-13 lead, but again the Valor trimmed that advantage late, making things interesting at 24-22. This time it was Hadley Waldren who pushed the Bulldogs over the edge to force the deciding set.
Neither team was able to take command in the final frame, until MC scored six of the final seven points to win 15-10 and come away with the huge home win.
The Valor used a two-headed monster in Loran Pritchett and Bella Wakley to push the Bulldogs to the limit. Pritchett led the way with a match-high 22 kills, while Wakley added 17 kills.
The Bulldogs will travel to crosstown rival Central Christian for the McPherson Collegiate Cup on Tuesday (Oct. 22) at 7 p.m. MC will return to Holman Fieldhouse for a midweek matchup against York University. Start time is 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 23).
