Volleyball Bulldogs Extend Winning Streak with Sweep of Avila

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five games with a 3-0 sweep over the Avila University Eagles Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) on Senior Day inside the Sport Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs secured the four seed in the KCAC Tournament, and will receive a first-round bye to advance straight to Hutchinson.

The Bulldogs started slow in the opening set, but turned it on with six straight points, including a pair of kills by Cynarah Rodriguez and three kills by Petra Fernandez. The Eagles leveled the score at 12-12, then took a 17-16 advantage before an 8-1 burst by the Bulldogs that included back-to-back service aces by Becca Steffen gave them control late.

MC continued to roll in set two, mounting a 16-6 lead before cruising to a 25-16 set win.

Avila scored the first point in the final set, but that would be the only lead they would hold in the third game as the Bulldogs scored seven of the next eight points to keep the momentum in their favor. A kill by Katelyn Moore finished off the sweep with a 25-16 win in the final set.

The Bulldogs had a hitting percentage of at least .500 in each of the final two sets to finish the match hitting .375. They also held the Eagles to single-digit kills in two of the three sets.

Petra Fernandez paced the Bulldogs with 15 kills, while Hadley Waldren added 10 kills. Rodriguez finished with 39 assists and four kills. Moore led the Bulldogs with 13 digs while adding eight kills, and Moriah Delgado finished with 11 digs.

The Bulldogs will be in action in the KCAC Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kan. on Friday (Nov. 10) at 11:00 a.m. MC will face the winner between fifth-seeded Ottawa University and 12th-seeded Southwestern College.
