LINDSBORG, Kan. – Fresh off the Sterling Invitational Tournament, Smoky Valley was back at home Tuesday night hosting Trinity Catholic. After a bit of a slow start, the Viking girls pulled away for a 14-point win, while the Celtics used a big second quarter to leave town with a 22-point victory in the boys contest.
Girls-Smoky Valley 50, Trinity Catholic 36 – Trinity Catholic held a 10-8 lead after one quarter, but the Vikings outscored the Celtics 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 25-15 lead at halftime. Smoky Valley used a 25-21 second half to pull off the 14-point victory in the end. Kat Blanchat was in double figures for the 12th time in 12 games, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds and Kenzley Haxton added 12 points. Illie DeBaere was the story of the night, registering the first double figure game of her career with 10 points as Smoky Valley won their fifth game in the last six tries, moving to 5-7 overall. Trinity Catholic fell to 1-11. They were led by Alex Suter-Tan with a game-high 16 points.

Boys-Trinity Catholic 52, Smoky Valley 30 – Smoky Valley held a 10-4 lead after one, but the Celtics played to an 18-4 advantage in the second quarter to lead by eight at half. Trinity Catholic continued to control the game from there, outscoring the Vikings 30-16 in the second half for the 22-point win. Max Ryan scored right at his average with 17 points to lead the Celtics. Trinity is now 3-9 with the win, while Smoky Valley fell to 3-9 with the loss. Ty Heitschmidt and Atticus Pavlovich each scored six to lead the Vikings.
