Two Salthawks Reach State Championship Match

Two Hutchinson High wrestlers – Cruz Cannon at 126 pounds and Dion Brown at 106 pounds – will wrestle for a state championship on Saturday.

Cannon was dominant in his three matches, winning the first by pin and the next two by technical fall, including a 19-4 semifinal win over the No. 2 seed, Shepherd Young from DeSoto.

Cannon will take on Arkansas City’s Zackry Mosier for the title.

Brown likewise was dominant. He won his first match by pin before winning a pair of decisions by a combined 13 points. He beat top-seed Brodie Spencer from Pittsburg 14-7 in the semifinals.

Six other Salthawks are still alive on the consolation side. Jackson Anderson (190 pounds) reached the semifinals before losing, but he has guaranteed a top-six finish.

Also still alive in the second consolation round are Zach Allen (120), Cooper Harris (150), Karson Etienne (165), Max Harris (175), and James Hill (215).

The Salthawks are in fifth place with 70.5 points, 10.5 behind Maize in third place.

Hutch girls have three still going – 110-pounder Aaida Brown leads three Hutchinson girls wrestlers into Saturday, as Brown has a guaranteed top-six finish after a semifinal loss.

Also still alive on the consolation side are Karly Belote (105) and Khloee Smith (115).
