Tuesday’s Bat Cats at A’s Game Canceled, Two Players Win Weekly Awards

DODGE CITY, Kan. – While the Bat Cats were unable to play Tuesday, June 25 in Dodge City, there were two players that were named to weekly honors by the Jayhawk Collegiate League.

The Great Bend Bat Cats were scheduled to play the Dodge City A’s on the road Tuesday, June 25, but the game was canceled due to inclement weather. The A’s said via Facebook that they are awaiting details on a potential make-up game. The Bat Cats will face the A’s in Great Bend Wed., June 25 at 7 p.m.

It was a good day for Great Bend though as Elias Leon and Carson Umphres were give honors by the Jayhawk Collegiate League. Leon was named one of the league’s Position Players of the Week and Umphres was named a Pitcher of the Week.

Leon had a strong week at the plate between June 15-21. During that stretch, he had a batting average of .368 including a home run, two doubles, and 5 RBI’s. The Windcrest, Tex. native also stole six bases during the week and had an OPS of 1.032.

Umphres was named a Pitcher of the Week after throwing six strong innings. The recent Great Bend High School graduate allowed just one run and struck out six batters during that stretch.

The Bat Cats are currently 9-6 on the season and are in third place in the Jayhawk Collegiate League standings.
