BENNINGTON – Cameron Kiser sank four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points, as the Trinity Catholic boys shook off their worst offensive game of the season by beating Bennington 52-51 on Tuesday.
Four days prior, the Celtics mustered just 10 points in a loss at Berean Academy. Tuesday, Kiser had nine points in the first quarter alone and 12 by halftime, as the Celtics led 31-21.
The lead was stretched to as many as 11 points in the second half, but Bennington kept cutting into the deficit.
Trinity was led 50-48 when Kiser was fouled with 12 seconds left. He sank both free throws, giving Trinity a four-point lead.
Bennington’s Isaiah Garrett answered with a 3-pointer, but there was less than five seconds left when Garrett’s shot went in. Bennington didn’t have any timeouts to stop the clock, and the Celtics didn’t have to inbound the ball.
Alex Guajardo added 11 points for the Celtics, shaking off back-to-back scoreless games.
Ian Rios set a career high with five points.
Trinity improved to 7-12 and will return home to play Moundridge on Thursday. Bennington falls to 9-12.
