Blake Smith scored 26 points, including 13 in each half, and Boston Ekart added 24 points coming from an array of dunks and 3-pointers, as the reigning Class 2A champion Sterling kept up its undefeated start Tuesday, beating Trinity Catholic 81-23.
Each team welcomed a player making their season debut. Sterling’s Cameron Morris came off the bench after suffering a broken collarbone in football and scored eight points. Trinity’s Alex Guajardo also played for the first time this season, scoring five points.
Beau Towell led Trinity with seven points.
Sterling improved to 8-0 headed to Friday’s marquee showdown with Moundridge. Trinity fell to 2-5 and will travel to Marion on Friday.
