Hutchinson Sports Roundup: Three Salthawk Golfers Finish in top 20 at League Meet

DERBY, Kan. – The doubles team Alya Booe and Ellis Foos came in fourth place in the AVCTL Division 1 tennis tournament on Monday in Derby.

The Salthawks’ No. 1 doubles team collected 10 of the Salthawks’ 17 points in the tournament.

Booe and Foos were the No. 5 seed, and rolled into the semifinals without dropping a set. The duo lost to the eventual champions from Maize South, Madelyn Fellows and Sydney Schumaker, and then fell in the third-place match.

Payzlee Regier came in 10th place for the Salthawks, while McKenzie Griffin came in 13th.

The other doubles team of Addison Lewis and Rylee Miller finished 12th.

The Salthawks will next compete in the Class 5A regional on Saturday in Salina.

Girls golf – Led by identical 100s from Brynn Hall and Lydia Patterson, the Salthawks came in fourth place at the AVCTL Division 1 meet on Monday at Derby Country Club.

The Salthawks finished with a score of 408. Maize won the tournament with a 322.

Hall and Patterson finished tied for 14th. Kara Cape also had a top-20 finish for the Salthawks, coming in a tie for 16th with a 101.

Ava Burlie and Lily Rodriguez tied for 22nd, each with a 107. Jordan Pratt carded a 118, finishing in 29th place. The Salthawks will next compete in the Class 5A regional on Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club in Wichita.

Volleyball – The Salthawks played well at the Great Bend tournament on Saturday, winning three of their four matches, including the final three.

After a loss to Great Bend, the Salthawks came back with strong wins over Liberal in straight sets, Newton in three sets, and Wichita Southeast in straight sets.

Hutchinson lost a pair of conference matches Tuesday to Maize and Maize South. The Salthawks are now 9-20.

Soccer – The Salthawks continued to maneuver a tricky stretch of games with a hard-fought overtime loss on Tuesday, 3-2 to Salina South, at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

It was the third overtime game out of the last four played for Hutch.

Saturday, the Salthawks blanked Campus 2-0. They are 5-5-1 headed to Thursday’s home game against Arkansas City.

Cross country – The boys team came in seventh place Saturday at Milford Lake near Junction City.

Lalo Rodriguez led the Salthawks with a 39th-place finish. He finished the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 29.8 seconds.

In the girls race, Avery Tecklenburg was the only Salthawk in the varsity race. She finished in 19th place (22:46.3).
