BUHLER, Kan. – Buhler flexed some tennis muscles during Friday’s Regional at the Buck Balzer Tennis Courts, sending three entries to the finals, and qualifying all four of its entries for this weekend’s State meet in Pratt. Buhler won the event, with McPherson finishing second and Clay Center third.
Defending 4A singles champion Davian Spies will return to State after dueling it out with teammate Amos Harder in Friday’s Regional final. Spies (20-4) won in straight sets, 6-6, 6-3. Harder also qualifies for State with a season record of 18-11.
On the doubles court, Brock Hilger and Von Woleslagel (18-12) battled their way to the finals, where they finished second to McPherson’s Alex Berger and Kayden McVicker. The opposing duos are likely to see each other again in Pratt. Eli Biggs and Meric Manns (13-13) also slid inside the top five and punched their ticket to the State tournament.

Track and Field
Buhler track and field did very well at last Friday’s 14-team Salina Central Invitational, posting 17 top-five finishes. Alycea McCoy leaped her way to first place in the girl’s triple jump with a best mark of 35-7.5. Myles Fredrick nabbed himself two first-place medals, crossing the finish line P1 in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

The Crusaders will compete at the league meet this Friday in Augusta, before hosting an eight-team Regional on May 18 at Crusader Stadium.
Golf
Buhler golf finished fifth of the 10 teams that competed at last Thursday’s Eisenhower Invitational held at Auburn Hills Golf Course. The Crusaders posted an 18-hole score of 335. Eisenhower’s 292 won the event.
It was a career-best day for junior Ethan Schwartzkopf, whose five-over 77 landed him in a three-way tie for 10th place. Drew DeMeyer also swung his way to a top-15 finish. His seven-over 79 placed him in a three-way tie for 14th.

Soccer
After winning five straight, Buhler soccer lost a pair of games last week. The Crusaders fell, 1-0, to Rose Hill on Thursday at Crusaders Stadium. Buhler (6-7-1) will conclude the regular season with two more games this week. Buhler will host Nickerson for Senior Night on Tuesday. Junior Varsity plays at 5:00 and Varsity at 6:30.
Swimming
Buhler swimming continued its regular season with an 8th-place finish at the Newton Invitational last Thursday. The Lady Crusaders will host the league meet this Friday at the Hutchinson Y.

Softball
Buhler softball earned win number two on the season last Monday against Augusta. Lilly Horne drove in a pair of runs in a 9-7 win in game one of two. She also worked seven innings in the circle.
