Tabor Women’s Soccer: Dooley’s Late Goal Secures Draw with Moundbuilders

HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) – In a highly anticipated KCAC women’s soccer conference matchup on Saturday evening, the Tabor College Bluejays and the Southwestern College Moundbuilders faced off in an intense match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams aimed to climb the conference standings over the weekend. The Bluejays entered the contest with an overall record of 2-3-2 and a conference record of 1-1. The Moundbuilders entered the contest with an overall record of 0-6 and a conference record of 0-1.

It was a slow start to the match for both teams, with no significant action happening until the 11-minute mark when the Builders took their first shot at the goal, which was denied by Neve MulrooneyRaegan King retaliated with a shot on Southwestern’s end of the field but couldn’t find the back of the net. Two more Builders took shots at the goal, but Mulrooney recorded two more saves, leaving the game still scoreless nearing the end of the first half. At the 39-minute mark, Emily Brundege of Southwestern scored the first and only goal of the match for her team. As the first half came to a close, the Bluejays were trailing 0-1 and looking to equalize in the next half.

Aiming to even the score in the second half, the Bluejays kept up their offensive efforts. Taylor Nye took her shot at the goal, but her attempt was just barely saved by Southwestern’s goalkeeper. Jami Dooley took a stab at the action too but failed to convert for Tabor.  However, Dooley wasn’t quite done yet. After a relatively uneventful second half, Dooley scored the tying goal for the Bluejays with just a minute and a half remaining in the match, assisted by April Ochoa. The match concluded in a 1-1 draw after Tabor’s impressive equalizer comeback.

The Lady Bluejays are back in action this Wednesday as they will face the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University at 5 p.m. The match will take place here in Hillsboro at Joel H. Wiens Stadium. Kansas Wesleyan enters the contest with an overall record of 4-4-1 and a conference record of 4-0.
