Tabor Football’s Gardner Named 2024 KCAC Bissell Division Coach of the Year

WICHITA, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has announced that Mike Gardner has been named as the 2024 KCAC Bissell Division Coach of the Year.

Gardner led the Bluejays to a 6-5 overall record, a three-win improvement from a season ago, as well as a 4-1 record in Bissell Division play, a two-win improvement from last season. In addition to the turnaround from last season, the Bluejays posted wins over rivals, McPherson College, Bethel College, and Sterling College under Gardner’s leadership.

Under Gardner, 15 Tabor Football athletes earned All-Bissell honors for their efforts this season, a testament to the Gardner’s strong leadership and the strong character of the Bluejay Football program as a whole.

Two program records were broken during the 2024 season under Gardner’s leadership, with Nathan Heilig becoming the career field goal record holder with his 56-yarder in the win over the University of Saint Mary and Brooks Gardner becoming the career leading tackler with 352 total tackles.

The 2024 season marks the 16th winning season in school history, 14 of which came under Gardner while he was either Defensive Coordinator or Head Coach.

Gardner was previously named KCAC Coach of the Year four times (’04, ’05, ’12, and ’15) prior to the earning the award this season.
