HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBlueJays.com) – Tabor College has announced that they have found their next head men’s basketball coach, as Josh Roach has accepted the opportunity to lead the team.
“We are excited to have Coach Roach join us at Tabor. His energy and eagerness to work with our young men is evident. He brings both knowledge and passion to the position and will be a great fit to campus. He wants all of his players to have a great all-around collegiate experience and that is a top priority for him,” Director of Athletics David Ediger said.
Roach comes to Tabor after spending the last three and a half years as an assistant coach for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma men’s basketball team. Roach’s team had an overall record 75-32 when he was there, including 3-0 in games where he was the acting coach. He helped lead the team to a conference tournament championship in 2021 and a conference regular season championship in 2022, qualifying for the National Tournament in both seasons.
Among the success stories while at University of Science and Arts, Roach helped develop 2 NAIA All-Americans, 11 All-Conference players (6 of which he recruited) and 1 Conference Player of the Year. He was also responsible for eligibility, scheduling, budgets and community service in addition to developing practice plans, leading individual workouts and film breakdowns, and providing detailed scouting reports to help the team prepare for games.
Before coaching in Oklahoma, Roach was an assistant coach at Union College in Kentucky. That marked the first college coaching experience after teaching and coaching at the high school level in Indiana for eight years. He spent three years working at Kingdom Sports Fundamental Basketball Academy, serving as Director of Basketball Operations following his graduation from Ball State University in 2006.
Roach, who will begin his coaching duties immediately, said, “I am blessed and excited to be given the opportunity to lead the Tabor Men’s Basketball program. I would like to thank Tabor President, Dr. David Janzen and Director of Athletics, David Ediger for believing in me and my vision. I am looking forward to working with many great people at Tabor and building a program of continued success both on and off the court.”
