Sterling senior Chelsie Brown captured her second straight singles championship at the Kansas Class 3-2-1A girls state tennis tournament in Salina.
Brown defeated Classical School of Wichita’s Ani Doom in the semifinals 6-4, 6-0 and Ellsworth’s Karli Haase 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.
Brown received a first-round bye, defeated Wabaunsee’s Talen Orton 6-1, 6-4 in the second round and Conway Springs’ Addison Rusco 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Brown finished her high school career with 69 consecutive victories.. She posted a 33-0 record this season and her career record is 120-14.
Brown won the state title with a 36-0 record in 2024 and placed seventh at state in 2023 as a sophomore with a 35-9 record.
She qualified for state as a freshman in 2022 and finished with a 16-5 record.
The Sterling doubles team of Jaiden Jaeger and Danika Zimmerman placed ninth.
Haven’s Kensie Popp placed 10th in singles.
The Haven doubles team of Bayleigh Minnis and Karlee Cooprider made it to the third round of bracket play before coming up short in their final match.
Ellsworth High School won the Class 3-2-1A state team title with 44 points. Conway Springs placed second with 36 points and Classical School of Wichita finished third with 23 points.
Sterling placed fourth with 22 points, followed by Central Plains-Claflin 19, Larned 18, Osborme 10, Phillipsburg 10, Haven 7, Russell 7, Wakeeney-Trego 7, Alma-Wabaunsee 4, Meade 2 and Silver Lake 2.
