It was the second week in a row Farney and Newberry both passed the century mark on the ground.

Cameron Morris led the Black Bears on defense against Moundridge with 13 tackles, Newberry had 9 stops and David Myers added 8. Newberry, Maxwell and Jace Darnauer had interceptions.

“I’m proud of our kids,” said Sterling football coach Brent Schneider. “They have been playing fast and physically. Zane and Wyatt both crossed the century mark again this week. Deryn stepped up and ran the ball well for us.

“Defensively, we are so fun to watch and be a part of. We take pride in getting to the football and I think it is really evident that the kids are buying into that concept.

“We rotate a lot of kids and stay fresh and our kids are bought into that and fly around when they are on the field. Cameron Morris is an animal. He led our team with 11 tackles and is the pivot for us on the offensive line.

“Kevin Ploutz played well and as much as he was on the field he didn’t get tired, even with the heat. I couldn’t be more proud of our kids.”

Sterling, which improved to 2-0, hosts Inman next Friday.
