BROOKVILLE, Kan. – Behind the sharpshooting from Isaac Briar, and Carson Gray’s 19 points, the Sterling boys pulled away in the fourth quarter from Ell-Saline on Friday in Brookville.
The win enabled Sterling to remain in fourth place in the uber-difficult Class 2A Sterling substate standings. Sterling will play third-place Moundridge on Tuesday, with a chance even to move up to second with a win and Inman loss to Bennington.
Briar hit three first-half 3-pointers, helping Sterling build a 32-24 lead at halftime. The lead stayed at eight going to the fourth quarter, and Gray took over, as he had 13 of his 19 points after halftime.
Briar finished with 17 points and sank five 3-pointers.
Ell-Saline girls 58, Sterling 40 – Ell-Saline’s full-court pressure defense caused problems for Sterling early, as the Cardinals raced to a 13-1 lead and never looked back.
Kate Rowland led Sterling with 12 points.
