Sterling Boys and Clearwater Girls Claim Kingman Eagle Classic Titles as Haven Teams Battle for Third

The Sterling High School boys basketball team captured the Kingman Eagle Classic title by knocking off Great Bend 74-62 Saturday night.

The Clearwater girls defeated Sterling 35-32 in the girls title game.

The Haven High School girls basketball team defeated Meade 62-42 to place third and the Haven boys basketball team fell to Meade 65-54 in the third-place boys contest.

The Haven girls improved to 3-2 and the Haven boys dropped to 1-4.

The Haven boys and girls play on the road Tuesday at Nickerson and host Belle Plaine on Friday to close out the first semester.

The Great Bend girls defeated Kingman 46-32 in the fifth-place girls game and the Clearwater boys downed Kingman 55-49 in the fifth-place boys game.

The Girls All-Tournament Team consisted of Haven’s Avery Brawner, Sterling’s Aleya Ravenstein, Great Bend’s Alex Mayers, Meade’s Saylor Stapleton and the Clearwater trio of Madison Clevenger, Makena Hampton and Justine Berlin.

The Boys All-Tournament Team consisted of the Sterling trio of Boston Ekart, Blake Smith and Zane Farney, Great Bend’s Ian Prrmer and Daxton Minton. Haven’s Brogan Wray, Meade’s Samual Lynn and Kingman’s Dawson Wood.

Ekart led all scorers in Sterling’s win over the Great Bend Panthers with 25 points. Jacob Lewis scored 14 points, Farney 13 and Wyatt Newberry 13.

Jacob Hall led the Panther boys with 19 points. Premer scored 17 and Cooper Ohnmacht added 12.

Brawner poured in 31 of the Haven girls’ 62 points, had 3 assists and 4 steals. Rilynn Patry scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Hallie Williams had 8 assists. Sorrel DeFrain had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Karlee Cooprider had 5 steals..

Stapleton led the Meade girls in scoring with 16 points.

Kaitlin Lewis led the Sterling girls with 13 points, followed by Allie Gray with 10 and Blaine Locke with 9. Hampton led Clearwater’s girls with 13 points. Clevenger scored 10 and Berlin 8.

The Haven boys were led by Wray with 13 points, followed by Wyatt Bontrager with 11 and Cole Brawner 10. Lynn led Meade with 20 points. Circean Conley scored 12, Eddy Mendoza 11 and Tyson Knott 11.

The Clearwater boys’ top scorer in the win over Kingman in the fifth-place game was Isaac Smith with 12 points. Wood led the Kingman boys with 18 points. Logan Birkenbaugh added 10, Greyson Smith 9 and Jaxson Campbell 8.

Meredith Mazouch and Alyssa McCauley led the Great Bend Panther girls with 13 points each. Chayla Pendergast added 9. Addi Giefer led the Kingman Eagle girls with 12 points and Taylor Helm scored 10.

The Great Bend Panther boys basketball team overpowered the Haven Wildcats 75-44 Friday night.

The Haven Wildcat girls handed the Great Bend girls a 59-34 loss Friday afternoon.

Brawner, who signed a letter of intent to play softball at Hutchinson Community College, led the Haven girls with 28 points and 6 steals.

Hadley Idacavage, Hallie Williams and Rilynn Patry each scored 9 points. Idacavage had 6 steals and Williams 3. Patry grabbed 7 rebounds.

Alex Mayers led the Great Bend Panther girls with 11 points and Denver Ringo scored 8.

Also on Friday, the Sterling girls defeated Kingman 55-33 and the Sterling boys defeated Kingman 75-34.

Ian Premer, senior Notre Dame football signee, led the Great Bend Panther boys with 29 points. Daxton Minton scored 11, Alec Premer 10 and Jacob Hall 9.

Brogan Wray led the Haven boys with 13 points.

Blaine Locke led the Sterling girls with 21 points. Aleya Ravenstein scored 17. Taylor Helm led the Kingman girls with 9 points and Jayda DeWeese added 8.

The Sterling boys were paced by Boston Ekart with 20 points. Blake Smith scored 13.

The Kingman boys were led by Grayson Smith with 9 points and Dawson Wood tallied 8.
