The South Central High School boys basketball team defeated Central Plains 49-30 in the Kansas Class 1A Division I state tournament semifinals Thursday at Dodge City’s United Wireless Arena.
The South Central Timberwolves, coached by Bud Valerius, advanced to the 1A DI state championship against Beloit-St. John/Tipton Catholic (23-2) at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
South Central (22-4) was paced by Jack Herd with 21 points, 17 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. Eli Girk scored 11 points.
Central Plains’ Camden Stiles scored 11 points. Brodie Crites grabbed 5 rebounds.
Central Plains (25-3) will play Norwich (23-5) for third place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
In the second semifinal game, Norwich led Beloit-St. John’s/Tipton Catholic 20-17 at halftime, but the Blujays rallied to defeated Norwich 61-53.
Gabe Roderick led the Blujays in scoring with 22 points and Edward Horinek scored 15 points. The Blujays are coached by Lance Bergmann.
