Softball Bulldogs Go 1-3 at LCU Invitational

ALEXANDRIA, La. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs softball team opened the 2025 season Friday (Jan. 31), falling to Louisiana Christian University and Texas A&M-Texarkana at the LCU Invitational in Alexandria, La.

GAME ONE – Louisiana Christian 22, McPherson 2

The Bulldogs came out hot in the top of the first, scoring a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. Karisa Hernandez drew a lead off walk then scored on a line drive single to centerfield by Melaney Granados.

However, that lead was short-lived as the Wildcats scored six runs in the bottom of the first, four in each of the second and third, and eight more in the fourth.

LCU finished with 12 hits, while the Bulldogs were held to just three hits. Alivia Lange and Savannah Robles had the other two hits along with Granados.

GAME TWO – Texas A&M-Texarkana 10, McPherson 1

The Eagles scored the first five runs of the contest with three in the second and two in the third, but Sidney Larrew put the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the fourth with her first home run in a Bulldog uniform.

But the Eagles kept their foot on the pedal, adding five runs over the next two innings to take down the Bulldogs.

Larrew finished game two going 2-for-2 at the plate with the homer. Samantha Hollingsworth got the start in the circle and struck out two batters.

GAME THREE – #21 LSU-Alexandria 16, McPherson 2

In the opener on Saturday, the Generals wasted no time putting runs on the board, scoring three in the first inning and one more in the second inning.

LSUA’s offense exploded in the third inning, adding ten to their total before the Bulldogs scored their first run in the bottom of the inning. Robles drove in Mackenzie Birch, who reached on a walk, with a single to left center.

However, the Generals added two more to the board in the next half inning with a pair of RBI singles.

Robles drove in her second run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth, scoring pinch runner Victoria Thornton.

GAME FOUR – McPherson 10, Texas A&M-San Antonio 4

The Bulldogs picked up their first in of the season in game four of the weekend. The Jaguars grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but MC stormed back with an offensive explosion, scoring six in the next half-inning.

McPherson added one more in the fourth, then tacked on three in the sixth to seal the victory.

Layla Towner drove in three runs, while Granados finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate. Landri Lopez got the start in the circle for the Bulldogs and went four innings, allowing three runs.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday (Feb. 5) for the McPherson Collegiate Cup with a doubleheader on tap against Central Christian College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Central Christian.
