LINDSBORG, Kan. – After two straight games on the road, the Smoky Valley basketball teams were back home for a rare Monday doubleheader.  The Viking girls got the night started with a ten-point win over Belle Plaine and the boys finished the night with a 14-point victory over the Dragons to move to 2-0 at home.

Girls-Smoky Valley 46, Belle Plaine 36 – The Vikings got off to a great start, leading 13-10 after one quarter and going on an 11-0 run to start the second quarter, taking a 24-10 lead.  Belle Plaine closed in on the lead and had it down to ten at half at 28-18.  Smoky Valley’s lead was trimmed down to three late in the third quarter, but a mini 6-0 run put them back up by nine early in the fourth as they went on to the ten-point victory.  Kenzley Haxton was the catalyst most of the night for the Viking offense as she finished with a career-high 15 points in the win.  The 46 points were the most scored this season by the Vikings as they picked up their first win over the season, moving to 1-3 overall.  Belle Plaine dropped their second straight, falling to 3-2.
